Preface: In the past three years, my husband and I have made multiple attempts to welcome our baby. Finally, it was decided to go to the United States for assisted reproductive technology. The 90 day period is both a long wait and full of surprises and emotions. The following will authentically depict my entire journey from visa application to discharge with my baby, hoping to bring help and comfort to you who are also searching for your dreams in a foreign country. π‘
Part 1: Registration and Visa Preparation (Day 0-14) β
We consulted several reputable institutions online in China and ultimately chose to collaborate with two reproductive centers: INCINTA Fertility Center (Torrance, California) and Medi Reproductive Center. When preparing the materials, my husband and I had a clear division of labor:
Passport, marriage certificate, health examination report π Blood type and genetic testing reports for both spouses π¬ Proof of Funds, Appointment Confirmation Letter π΅On the day of the embassy interview, my heart raced, but the visa officer was very friendly and successfully obtained a B2 visa with a validity period of six months. π
Part 2: Initial Diagnosis and Protocol Design (Day 15-Day 30) π¬
After arriving in Los Angeles, drive to INCINTA Fertility Center (Torrance, California). The initial diagnosis process includes:
Blood hormone testing (FSH, LH, AMH), ultrasound follicle monitoring, detailed review of medical records, one-on-one discussion with attending physician on the planThe doctor developed a mild ovulation induction plan based on my AMH value and physical condition to avoid excessive stimulation. During this period, the clinic nurse also sent me a WeChat video explaining medication precautions, which was meticulous and thoughtful. π
Schedule Overview:
Part 3: Ovulation Promotion and Retrieval (Day 31-Day 45) π
1. Medication monitoring: Inject one shot each morning and evening to promote ejaculation, and combine with oral medication. Due to the mild protocol, the entire process was relatively comfortable with only slight bloating.
2. Ultrasound monitoring: Follow up at the clinic every two days to monitor follicle size and endometrial thickness.
On the day of egg retrieval: The hospital arranged for it to be performed in the early morning, and the anesthesiologist was very professional. The surgery was completed in about 20 minutes. Afterwards, rest for one night in the recovery area and go downstairs for activities the next day without affecting the subsequent itinerary.
Part 4: Embryo Culture and Screening (Day 46-60) π¬
After egg retrieval, we harvested 6 mature eggs, all of which were successfully fertilized. The laboratory cultured the embryos until the fifth day blastocyst and conducted PGT-A (chromosome level) testing to improve success rate and safety in the later stage. Five days later, three blastocyst detection reports were normal and ready for transplantation.
Part 5: Embryo Transfer and Two Week Waiting (Day 61-Day 80) π€
On the day of the transplant, I drank a small amount of water in the morning and fasted for several hours. Doctors use ultrasound guidance to accurately insert the highest quality blastocyst into the uterus. After the surgery, I was advised to rest more, drink more water, and avoid vigorous exercise. In the following two weeks, regular blood tests will be conducted at the local medical examination center to monitor HCG. Every time the value rises, it feels like giving us a shot of adrenaline.
Part 6: Confirmation of Pregnancy and First Ultrasound (Day 81-85) π
On the 12th day after transplantation, the HCG value doubled well; On the 14th day, it was confirmed again that the HCG value had steadily increased. On the afternoon of that day, the first early B-ultrasound was performed, and a small "sac" on the screen was pulsating with weak heartbeats. The doctor solemnly told us: Congratulations, preliminary confirmation of intrauterine pregnancy! At that time, I could hardly hold back my tears, and my husband excitedly held my hand, deeply moved beyond words. β
Part 7: Mid pregnancy Management and Choosing to Return/Study in the United States (Day 86- Day 100) π
After learning about the pregnancy, we weigh whether to give birth locally or return to our home country based on health insurance and subsequent prenatal examination needs. The final decision was to undergo two more structured ultrasound scans in the United States, supplement necessary nutrition, and return to China after 32 weeks to safely wait for delivery. During the period, follow the doctor's advice for blood glucose screening, Down syndrome screening, and growth monitoring to ensure the healthy development of the fetus.
Part 8: Delivery and Baby Carrying and Discharge (Around Day 240) πΆ
On the third day after returning to China, I was admitted to the hospital for delivery. The entire labor process went smoothly, and the baby was born naturally at full term, a healthy and chubby little baby was born. When the nurse put him in my arms and heard his first cry, tears and happiness were both present at that moment. The doctors and nurses on site gave thumbs up, saying that the recovery was good and the mother and son were safe. π
Conclusion: The 90 day journey, from visa application to child rearing, was like a long marathon, but it was every blood draw, every check-up, and every wait that taught me strength and trust. Thank you to the medical team for their professionalism and patience, as well as to family and friends for their encouragement. I hope my recording can provide some reference and warmth for you who want to embark on the path of assisted reproduction in a foreign country. Come on, we can all meet little angels in love and perseverance! π
