My Blood and Tears History of IVF in the United States: Choosing the Right Clinic, Avoiding Three Years of Mistakes

Opening Hook
When choosing a clinic in the United States, I made a mistake that 90% of Chinese families would fall into - blindly trusting the CDC list with the highest success rate. It wasn't until the second transplant failed that the embryologist privately told me, 'Your clinic's freezing technology doesn't match that data at all.'

1. My identity: a patient who spent $180000 to buy a lesson

In 2021, with an AMH value of 0.6, I was sentenced to the death penalty for childbirth by domestic doctors. My husband and I sold a small apartment and decided to go to the United States for the last time.At that time, I naively thought that as long as I spent money to go to the United States, I would definitely succeed——In the first year, he was slapped in the face by reality。

(Insert details: At a well-known clinic in Los Angeles, a nurse mistakenly translated "300 units of procoagulation needles per day" as "300 milliliters", and I almost ended up in the emergency room.)

2. What are the core advantages of in vitro fertilization in the United States? First, tear open the 'filter'

Real advantage：

PGT-A detection is precise to the point of abnormalityThe embryo screening I conducted at CCRM even marked the proportion of chromosome chimerism (most hospitals in China only report "pass/fail").
Laboratory equipment crushingThe time difference incubator used in a clinic in New York has a 20% higher embryo survival rate than my first clinic.

Business Trap：

The 'Success Rate' GameIn CDC data, many clinics in the age group of 40 and above do not report directly (such as the HRC Irvine branch that I consulted).
inconspicuous consumptionA doctor in California insisted that I buy $5000 of "embryo glue", but later found out that this thing was highly controversial.

3. Clinic comparison: These three dimensions are 100 times more important than "fame"

① Laboratory level - the lifeline that 90% of people overlook

Ask for the qualifications of an embryologist! I specifically chose a Jewish embryologist with 20 years of experience in the second cycle, and her precision in manually peeling egg shells is completely unmatched by beginners.
The device model needs to be specific: for example, the "ESCO Miri Multi Gas Incubator" is $100000 more expensive than a regular incubator, but can simulate the fallopian tube environment.

② Doctor's style: Harvard graduates may not be suitable for you

Quick Knife Hand "Doctors Carefully Selected: A famous doctor in New York has an average interview of 8 minutes. My plan is exactly the same as that of another girl with an AMH value of 2.0.
Recommend Cornell's Chinese doctor Dr. LiShe found that I was sensitive to high-dose ovulation induction and switched to a micro stimulation regimen. In the end, the number of eggs retrieved was small but the quality was extremely high.

③ Cost trap: Is Texas cheaper than California? Not necessarily!
(Insert scenario: I quoted $25000 at a clinic in Houston, but each monitoring requires a 2-hour drive to Dallas, and the transportation cost is even more expensive than in New York.)

4. Blood and tears lesson: These details can save your embryo

Time difference murderThe nurses at CCRM always call me at 3am Beijing time. Once, I got so tired that I stuffed Snow Nut into hemorrhoid medicine
Translation must be professionalSuggest spending an additional $800 to hire a medical translator instead of relying on the bilingual front desk provided by the clinic for free.
Freezing technology is more important than fresh cyclesThe most tragic case I have ever seen is when an embryo breaks apart during thawing due to the large temperature fluctuations in the liquid nitrogen tank used in the clinic.

5. Counter common sense advice: Don't make "one-time success" your goal

To be honest, looking back on holding my daughter now, my obsession from the beginning almost killed meThe best clinic in the United States has a "live birth rate" of only 60% (for those under 35 years old),But 80% of people can achieve success after three cycles of persistence。

(Emotional marker: Before my third transplant, I was crying and taking antidepressants at the hotel when my husband said, 'It's a big deal to adopt.' Now when my baby is holding onto my hair and calling out to my mom, those numbers suddenly become ridiculous.)

End critical strike
If you ask me the ultimate secret to choosing a clinic?Go check their trash cans——Once I accidentally discovered a pile of takeaway boxes outside the embryo culture room of a certain clinic, and turned around to refund the deposit. In this profession, details can really be deadly。

(Blank space: Regarding how to negotiate with clinics and which additional items are worth buying, I will write about it next time.).After all, no one's money comes from strong winds。）
